In the game, the player is a captain of the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA), which is waging war against the Helghast Empire. The Helgast are a race of mutated humans who settled the RS Gold planet of Helghast over a millennium ago. The mutations that they endured while on the planet have RS GP made them stronger and faster than their normal human counterparts, and an earlier betrayal by the UCN have given the Helghast a grudge they've carried for years.

At the start of the game, the player is is defending the planet of Vekta against a Helghast army. Despite heroic efforts however, the Helghast army eventually overruns the defenses and the ISA is forced to retreat from the base. The planetary headquarters are evacuated, and the player, playing as Jan Templar, is sent to recover information from an undercover ISA operative. On they way, they discover that General Stuart Adams is working for the Helghast. The traitor general kills one of the lead RS GP ISA officers, and begins sabotaging Earth Defense fleet SD platforms. Fortunately, Templar and his ex-lover Lugar manage to subvert his activities, eventually resulting in the ISA retaking the planet.

Killzone received mixed reviews from critics. Although most reviews were positive, the game was criticized for some technical issues, including game glitches and problems with the AI. Although the graphical experience was labeled as one of the best of the generation, the gameplay itself was rated much lower; IGN in particular called the experience "underwhelming".

Killzone 2, developed for the new Playstation 3, received rave reviews. The game was praised for it's wonderfully complete graphics, comprehensive multiplayer mode, and great action. In the sequel, the ISA has recovered from the initial Helghast assault and has launched a counter-offensive against Helgan, the Helghast home planet. This RS GP time, the player takes on the role of Tomas Sevchenko, leading forces behind enemy lines deep in the planet. However, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are able to manipulate the weather and lightning storms on their planet, and are much more formidable on their home planet.

Killzone 3 is slated to be released in February 2011, and is rumored to pick up at the end of Killzone 2, when the Helghast has launched a massive counterattack that destroyed the ISA fleet. The game will only be RS GP available on the PS3.
